BAD BRAINS - March 25th, 1982 @ Whiskey A Go Go, Hollywood, CA [AUDIENCE]

Alright, I've edited in a fresh transfer of this BAD BRAINS set from The Whiskey in 1982, previously and incorrectly dated as happening in 1983.  This is a noisy audience recording, so it's not ideal, but this is obviously a great era of the band at a legendary venue, I'm sure lots of people wish they could transport back in time to be there, myself included.  This tape is the closest thing to that sadly.  So anyhoo, it's back up, downloads re-enabled, etc.  Enjoy!  Also, Black Flag hops on stage for one song at the end, they couldn't play places like the Whiskey due to being banned, so this was one way to make it happen, even if just for one song.    - DH

PLUTOCRACY - January 2nd, 1993 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Fucking hell this rules, a soundboard recording of the classic PLUTOCRACY lineup playing their final show at 924 Gilman St and the first ever Fiesta Grande.  If anyone can help fill in the missing song titles, that would be cool.  Or a good scan of the flyer for this show would be cool. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.  - DH

7 SECONDS - September 21st, 1985 @ CBGB’s, New York City, NY [SOUNDBOARD]

Ok, did a new transfer of this 7 SECONDS live soundboard tape recorded at the legendary CBGB's in New York City, 1985.  This time I ran it through Izotope which gives me the ability to wiggle some of the levels.  Vocals were turned down, guitars were turned up.  This should sound better this way, the guitars were pretty buried in the mix as they often are with soundboard recordings.

So this is a killer set, and the recording sounds pretty decent, but when the band has to stop for a bit and let people fill the space with "jokes" then it's an ugly reminder of the time period this was.  Someone starts cracking jokes about punks, and that's cool, but then some starts with "jokes" about Ethiopians and it just just racist as all hell for a minute.  Back then most younger folks would know of Ethiopia because of all the television ads asking for donations, so it just seems a lot meaner in the context that these were people in need of help.  Big oof.  I debated omitting it but I'm not down with editing shit like that, even as ugly as it is.  Feel free to skip it or delete it.  I couldn't fault ya for that. It's easy to hear these old recordings and think of how badass the scene likely was (for those of us not there at that time), but these bits are a reminder that it certainly had it's downside.   - DH

SOULSIDE - September 20th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

I am sorry I posted this.  I probably should take it down. I dunno.  The mix on this is all over the place and it changes often.  This is not a fun listen in my opinion.  Maybe a couple songs are ok, I can't remember.  Good setlist though, with interesting covers at the end.  It would have been cool being there, a lot cooler than listening to this tape.   - DH

NEUROSIS - May 27th, 1989 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [AUDIENCE]

An absolute belter of a set from NEUROSIS.  Just a year or two prior they were a band whose sets seemed held together by duct tape and force of will.  Now in 1989 they were tighter, heavier, more focused.  The "new" songs that would wind up on their 2nd LP were a step up in complexity and heaviness, though often slower too, to the annoyance of some old school diehards I know.  To me, the songs sound great and mixed in well with the earlier songs from the first LP and the 7".  I'm very glad someone had the foresight to record this.  And it sounds good too for a recording of this type! Cheers   - DH

FALSE LIBERTY - “THE ZOO IS FREE” 1986 Demo

Hell yeah, FALSE LIBERTY "The Zoo Is Free" demo from 1986.  This 6 song offering is solid fast hardcore from Seattle. It's got speed, it brings the heavy, the songs rule, I can listen to this anytime and just be stoked.  Like many of the bands I was exposed to thanks to these tapes from Chris Dodge and others, I'd never heard of False Liberty.  The mission of digitizing these awesome moments in time has brought a lot of new old music to my attention.  Hopefully this will help others hear of these bands they might not have otherwise, just as much as I hope this draws out good memories from those that are familiar and were around to see and support them when they were active.  So yeah, False Liberty.  I play this often, and I play it loud.  - DH
