ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT - January 31st, 1987 @ The Farm, San Francisco, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

When I first uploaded this tape earlier today from ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, I credited the set as being from December 27th, 1986, which was the huge Day At The Farm III show.  AA wasn't on the flyer so I was confused about whether or not they wound up playing that legendary show.  A few hours later Eric from AA corrected me.  They did NOT play the Day At The Farm show, and this set was mislabeled, the correct date being January 31st 1987.  It's still a sick soundboard, and was the last show from the American Paranoia era of the band.  Of course now that I know the correct date, I can see my buddy Shayne already uploaded this on his channel, 3 Cameras And A Microphone.  His is probably an upgrade as well as being digitized on superior equipment.  Fuck it though, I uploaded this already, and so up it shall stay.  And I'll be checking out Shayne's upload as well since the odds are it's a better copy.  Maybe you should look it up too.   - DH

STIKKY - May 27th, 1988 @ The Place, Davis, CA [AUDIENCE]

I'm back to uploading again, so I hope folks still like noisy handheld recordings of old bands live shows and rehearsals as well as obscure demos.

So kicking things back off is STIKKY, live at The Place, in Davis, CA.  I don't know if there is anything remarkable about this set, it's a typical set recorded by someone who was clearly intelligent and had great taste in music, thanks mysterious genius!  Thankfully, a typical Stikky set is pretty damn fun to listen to, they are a hilarious band and they also have a lot of killer songs.  So yeah, cram this one in your earholes.  - DH

SCREW 32 - January 6th, 1995 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Dang!  I uploaded this soundboard from SCREW 32 about two weeks ago, and then got busy and forgot to post the upload here!  Well, kiddo-s back in school so now I can do more uploading and whatnot, for those paying attention.  Here's one I got from my buddy Jake Kelly, a pretty decent soundboard from Screw 32, playing with Spitboy.  I like this, though I'm still not overly familiar with Screw 32, I think I've only heard one album and I don't own any of their stuff.  Had I grown up out here in the east bay, maybe I'd have been way more into them.  If this is your cup of tea, I think you'll really like this! Enjoy!   - DH

SWIZ - April 1988 @ St John's Cathedral, Washington DC [AUDIENCE]

Here's a very rough sounding live audio recording from SWIZ, live in Washington DC in 1988.  I think it's incomplete as well.  Not great sounding but I like Swiz so it gets the occasional play by me, if you have my level of tolerance for rough live tapes, perhaps you'll enjoy this as well...   - DH

CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER - December 20th, 1985 @ Ruthie's Inn, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Well, this soundboard from CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER is not good sounding.  Everything sounds fucky, especially the bass guitar and snare drum.  The source tape is a far lower gen than what is out there on Youtube currently at least.  I also did some attempts to improve things via Izotope and some EQ'ing, and it helps, but this is still the end result.  It's a shame because this is such an early show from the band, what a potentially great document of that period.  Maybe some diehards will dig this, but yeesh, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned this off too.   - DH

LIFE SENTENCE - March 23rd, 1986 @ The Electric Banana, Pittsburgh, PA [AUDIENCE]

Here's a very early live set from LIFE SENTENCE!  It's not the best sounding, probably recorded on a Walkman by someone in the audience, but I absolutely still appreciate it's existence and dig this tape.  I'm no Life Sentence expert, it's a band that I had completely missed out on as I dove into the world of punk, thrash, metal, etc but have learned that these guys were very active and had some killer records.  These tapes, especially the ones from Dodge have turned me on to a lot of bands that flew under my radar.  If you hadn't heard them before, here's your chance.  And if you are one of those folks already hip to them, then this may be something you really dig as well.  Enjoy!    - DH

JAWBOX - November 2nd, 1989 @ BBQ Iguana, Washington DC [AUDIENCE]

Here we go with a very early days live set from JAWBOX. I knew when I saw this tape that I was gonna have to digitize this one pretty much as quick as I can.  I liked them a lot in the early 90's, but even after all these decades, I don't think I have anything live from them at all, and that's a shame.  So I got this tape in a lot and was stoked to see it on the B side of a live Scream tape.  Heck yeah!  Thanks to whoever had the foresight to record this way back then!  - DH

OVERSOUL - February 14th, 1993 - [no location info] [SOUNDBOARD]

From Minneapolis, MN, and a time before metallic hardcore had become it's own huge scene, comes OVERSOUL.  I had posted their demo previously, so follow the tags at the bottom of the post to find that if you dig this.  It's 4 songs with killer production.  If you liked that post, and wanted to hear more, then you are in luck, as all 4 songs and a few more are on this soundboard tape.  There was no info on where the show was, just when, but I assume it's from their hometown.  If anyone can confirm, then I'll edit it into the post.  Being a soundboard means it's recording a mix that's intended for the room, not the tape, so there can be some funky issues such as overpowering vocals.  Usually vocal s are way up, guitars are way too low.  For this one I boosted the guitars a bit but they are fine enough in this mix, the vocals really had to come down a lot and they still are pretty high in the mix.  It is a lot more balanced though now, so thanks Izotope rx8 and it's handy rebalance feature!   Anyhoo, jam the tape.  It's good.  Jam that demo too, if you like 90's metallic hardcore then this will be right your alley.  - DH

SINS OF THE FLESH - May 3rd, 1987 @ Spanky's, Sacramento, CA

Here's another live set from SINS OF THE FLESH, who, if I remember correctly, were from the Sacramento area.  I'm not very familiar with the band outside of having some live sets from that time period where my buddies Chris and Shayne were tape trading with each other.  Shayne is the source for this, if he didn't tape he he would likely know who did.  And would probably know whether this was a soundboard tape or an audience.  It could go either way actually but if I had to guess I would go with soundboard.  So yeah, here's a probably soundboard recording from a band you've probably never heard of, just how I like it, haha.  Enjoy some new old sounds!   - DH

Another live recording of the mighty INFEST!  Thank you to whoever had the foresight to document this. It's not the best sounding, but hey, I'm not going to complain at all, it's fucking Infest in 1989!  So this tape didn't have much info with it, all this info outside of the setlist could be wrong.  There is a sticker on the spine of the case that says "Infest Los Angeles, CA 1989", so yeah, not very clear.  If I get any more solid info, I'll edit it in here of course.  For now, just crank this, or download it, or do both!  Enjoy!    - DH

DIDDLY SQUAT - August 8th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

As I listen to this upload I wonder why, WHY did I upload this!?!  The band in question, DIDDLY SQUAT is, or were, great.  They were a tri-cities Washington band that would later on have members in other great WA bands like Christ On A Crutch, Aspirin Feast, and Brotherhood, and of course is a band with Nate Mandell on bass who would later be known for Sunny Day Real Estate and Foo Fighters, and then would later on become a total kook who was into some weird AIDs denialism stuff.  What a goon.  Anyhoo, the band was killer.  This tape however, maybe not so much.  Not for any fault of the band, but it's a Gilman soundboard from 1987, notorious for bad board recording mixes because they had a small board in the beginning and they were obviously more concerned with having a good mix in the room, not a tape recording.  So yeah, 1987 Gilman board tapes are more often misses than hits.  I did what I could to help it but there's not much that could be done when the mix fluctuates so wildly.  So why did I upload this?  Because have you ever seen another Diddly Squat live tape?  No?  That's right, this band was shortlived and so there's just no other stuff that I've come across yet.  So this is it, and if you are curious, here ya go.  If you've never heard the band, follow the tags below to hear their 1987 demo.  - DH

MDC - July 25th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Here's a fun set from the mighty MDC, live at 924 Gilman St in July of 1987.  For this show they ripped up the setlist and put the songs in something and had the audience draw them and they would play it.  The mix on this is all over the place though, if you've checked out other Gilman soundboards on my site from 87 or 88 you should be familiar with this.  It is what it is, nothing I could do to fix this fully.  I did boost some things, but I cant do anything about the wildly fluctuating mix.  Still, might be neat if you were there, or just want a random MDC show to listen to.    - DH

OPERATION IVY - December 31st, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [AUDIENCE]

Here's a killer one that I got not from someone around here in the bay area, but off an east coaster in a lot of old live tapes and demos that I won on eBay. I was particularly stoked to hear this one, hoping for a tape copy of the soundboard, which I have heard but it's on a DVD, edited into the footage from that night.  I'd love a lossless copy but honestly, it didn't sound good.  The guitars were far too low, as normal for some of those kinds of tapes.  So instead of a soundboard, to my surprise this is an audience recording.  Given the problems with Gilman soundboards that I just mentioned, I always appreciate any recordings anyone had the foresight to make from out in the crowd, hell yeah.  Sadly it's just the Op Ivy set and not the others.  And I have no gen or taper info so I'm not sure if this taper recorded the other bands or not.  Still I'm happy that this exists and that I can share it with ya'll, enjoy!  Killer and fun performance, check that setlist!   - DH

BORN/DEAD - December 27th, 2002 @ Burnt Ramen, Richmond, CA [AUDIENCE]

Another killer classic from the collection, for me at least.  I've listened to this CDR a bunch, recorded by John The Baker at Burnt Ramen. He recorded damn near every Burnt Ramen show around this time, from mics hung from the ceiling.  I had mp3s of a pretty fair amount of those shows and lost them in a hard drive crash.  Always back yer shit up!  I know someone out there has all these shows, because I saw a torrent for them at one point, but it never had seeders.  It would be awesome to get access to those at some point, if anyone has leads, that would rule.  Maybe I'll bump into JTB someday and ask him. So, yeah.  This was the benefit show for P.U.N.K. zine I believe. It was a killer bill.  Hellshock played this as well, I think I have the Benumb and Hellshock sets up at least.  Check the tags below and see if they come up.  Anyhoo, killer band that anyone that was going to Ramen shows around this time would have had to see a handful of times.  They were pretty great, and once again, I felt like as much as I liked them, I didn't really appreciate them fully until they were done.  At least some records and a few live shows and videos exist!  Enjoy!   - DH

SUBINCISION - September 2nd, 1995 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Did you grow up gong to punk shows at 924 Gilman St in the later half of the 90's?  If so I suspect you may have seen this band at least a few times.  Or perhaps you just dig that scene, this might be for you.  It's a soundboard I got from my buddy Jake and if it's his then odds are it's something decent.  Personally, I'm not familiar with them, but I certainly have seen their name on older flyers and such.  Listening now, it's not bad at all, though it's a Gilman soundboard and that can be hit or miss.  But the music is cool.  I was onto heavier stuff by this point but I think that if I had come across this just a couple years prior I might have dug this.  - DH

Here's a FUGAZI set that doesn't appear to be uploaded to their archive, yet at least.  Pretty understandable as this is a rough sounding audience recorded tape.  But I love shit like that, so here it is, at least until they post it.  I did do some EQ'ing of this and even just spending 5 minutes on it made it sound a lot better than what there was originally.  So yeah, of course this i a great set.  It's Fugazi in 1990 on their home turf.  If you like Fugazi, and can hang with audience sourced tapes, then this is a must have.  Enjoy!   - DH

DISCHARGE - November 30th, 1983 @ City Gardens, Trenton, NJ [SOUNDBOARD]

Here's a classic DISCHARGE soundboard recording from 1983.  The tape is mis-labeled, but the original taper corrected the info for us all, while also posting his master tape HERE.  However, that tape is just an upload to Youtube with no links for downloading, so no archiving for us all that care about that kind of stuff, so this rip of a higher generation tape still matters.  It's currently the best circulating copy that somebody can download and store and listen to on their own computer or devices.  It would be awesome if the original taper shared his file, but until that happens, we will settle for this I guess.  It's still awesome though!  - DH

Life has been quite busy making regular postings difficult, but hopefully I can get things back on track.  Kicking this month off with a SPAZZ soundboard from 1999 recorded at 924 Gilman St.  It's not awesome sounding at all, it's pretty much just drums and vocals, I boosted the bass and guitar as much as I could but listening to it now it wouldn't sound like I did anything at all to it.  Some recordings there just can't be much done to it, without creating weird audio artifacting and such.  Not sure why I'm even posting this to be honest, but just in case a Spazz completist wants to hear it, here it is.    - DH
