ACEPHALIX - March 21st, 2011 @ Hazmat, Oakland, CA [AUDIENCE]

ACEPHALIX when they were at the top of their game!  This was when they had been releasing cassettes that showed off their newer death metal vibe, and it was incredible.  I saw them as often as I could, and every show seemed to be a rager.  This one was as well.  I can't remember off the top of my head who else played this night, but I'm glad I caught some audio of Acephalix, and of a show at the Hazmat in general.  For me personally, this was a great time in my life and I'm glad they were part of that soundtrack.  - DH

Edit: My buddy Vernon H posted the flyer and now I remember this show.  Total rager indeed.  Murderess were great, I wonder if I still have audio of their set around somewhere...

MINOR THREAT - July 11th, 1982 @ Dancing Waters, San Pedro, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Excited to be editing this post with a fresh 2023 transfer of this wicked MINOR THREAT set from Dancing Waters, in San Pedro, CA.  This was taped off the soundboard by a clearly very intelligent man named Chris O'Connor, who sent it in to MRR, and where it wound up in the hands of MRR volunteer and tape collector Chris Dodge.  So yeah, killer soundboard of a killer set, I'm glad this sound up seeing the light of day for everyone to hear finally.  Hopefully the new transfer sounds better, mainly I'm just re-ripping tapes to keep a better master digital copy, figure I might as well make a new vid to post while I'm at it.  Hope ya dig the tape, and we should all thank the Chris's involved.   - DH

NEUROSIS - June 6th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Well, it's by far not the best sounding NEUROSIS live recording I have, but it is a soundboard from 1987, which is a bit on the rare side.  And that setlist is amazing if you live those old "Pain of Mind" era songs.  Sadly, the guitars sound terrible, the overall mix constantly changes, and there wasn't anything I could do to change any of that. As a total Neurosis fan, I'd still rather this be uploaded so I can hear it myself and end the curiosity, so up it goes.  The other Neurosis recordings will generally be "better".  Anyway, the band still rips.  It's still Neurosis.   - DH

I've listened to this one several times now, a soundboard recording of M.D.C. at The Farm in San Francisco, CA, 1986.  This is a pretty killer recording, but unfortunately it's incomplete.  I sure hope to come across the rest someday.  So there's a lot of Dave talking, get comfortable or skip it.  When they finally begins ripping into some songs though, it's badass.  Does anyone know what the title is for track #4? DAVE DICTOR - June 20th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Here is a short set from Dave Dictor of M.D.C. playing some songs acoustically at 924 Gilman St.  Sounds like he showed up and jumped up for a quick set between bands.  Personally, I'm usually not a fan of acoustic punk, but Dave just has that personality, charm and sincerity to what he does that this is a fun listen. ISOCRACY - June 14th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Hell yeah, here's ISOCRACY from the 924 Gilman St "Battle Of The Bands" in June of 1987.  It's a possible master tape recorded from the soundboard.  This was pretty much the foundation of Lookout records in a way, or at least a very important show in the story of the label.  These were all Gilman house bands pretty much and I think all or most were released on the Turn It Around compilation, another important landmark in the tale of East Bay punk and hardcore.  This is Isocracy, so of course it's gonna be sloppy and sound terrible and yet also seem absolutely fun as hell to witness.  It might seem an odd listen on tape or these digitized files, unless you have the caveat in mind that their focus was a way more loose and wild live show for the people watching them.  The mix is kinda all over the plkace too, as is often the case in 1987 Gilman soundboards.  Still, I think it's cool to hear it, hopefully others think so as well.    - DH

GHOUL - September 15th, 2007 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

GHOUL!  One of my favorite bay area bands, such a fun set every damn time I see 'em!  I've been lucky to see them a ton, from their very first show up until the most recent shows.  Sadly, while I shot video a handful of times, I never made much of an effort to make any audio recordings.  Still, I did have the foresight to give the soundperson a tape at this show at 924 Gilman Street in 2007.  This was a killer show with the band Funerot.  Be warned, the first 5 minutes or so are pretty muffled sounding, the audio clears up after that.  Just the way it came on the tape, and since is the master, it's what we got to work with.  Skip ahead, smoke up, and play loud!    - DH

SPAZZ - July 8th, 1997 Cleveland, OH [AUDIENCE]

SPAZZ!  Their 1997 tour was legendary.  Shows may have not been huge, but it seemed everyone that went to these was stoked, as for many folks this may have been their only chance to see them live.  I managed to see them twice on this tour, and then again at their final show a couple years later.  The 1997 shows left such a lasting impression on me, it might have me a bit generous with the sound quality on this.  I know it's a bit noisy and rough, but considering what it is and the nostalgia for me, I'm just fine with listening to this.  If you saw Spazz on this tour, you also might have a bit of the nostalgia going on, this was a classic set that they pretty much did in some variation at the shows.  And if you never saw Spazz, I feel like this gives a great representation of the band in their best setting.  Hope ya dig it!   - DH

Well, damn, here's something I've never heard before.  A collaboration between Eyehategod and 13.  I've had the split 7" for quite a long time, but this is entirely new to me.  I've since seen a song from it uploaded to youtube, but this here is the entire 3 song tape.  There are two songs, plus an alternate take of the first song, recorded live to DAT on September 29th, 1993 in Brooklyn.  Enjoy!
