CONDEMNED ATTITUDE - March 20th, 1987 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Maybe it's due to the fact that I'm a doctor certified dingus, and also wasn't into punk or a part of this scene at all back then, but I have a tough time wrapping my brain around all the changes Attitude Adjustment went through as AA, then the merge with some members of AA and Condemned To Death to create CONDEMNED ATTITUDE, which we have here in this upload, then the reunion and also the Condemned? and Attitude and all that, it's a lot to keep track of.  I don't know the sequence of events or the reasons behind it all, but I like AA so I'll just collect all the bits together and appreciate it all.  This may not be the real Attitude Adjustment, but whatevs. It is however a decent board recording of an almost-Attitude Adjustment minus some key founding members.  Decent board recordings from 924 Gilman St, or the MRR Warehouse or Alternative Music Foundation as it was known then, are pretty rare.  I did run this through Izotope to kick down the vocals a notch, and to bump up the bass, drums, and guitars.  Sounds fairly ok enough now.  Hopefully those who love this will find this post and enjoy it. - DH

NIRVANA - February 17th, 1992 @ Club Citta, Kawasaki, Japan [SOUNDBOARD]

Nearly 30 years later, NIRVANA still has unreleased recordings finding their way online.  This one is a soundboard from their Japan tour in 1992, which was just released for the first time as part of a 4 CD set that documents all 4 nights of Nirvana's Japanese tour. Someone posted a FLAC set ripped from the Kawasaki night and posted it on Reddit, seemed a bit heavy on the bass so I put it through Izotope Rx8 to see if I could push it down further in the mix.  It's still there, as it should be, but doesn't dominate the way it was before.  I included FLACs of my edit, as well as the Zip file as it was posted to Reddit that is untouched (except for the awful "mastering" the bootleg maker did, oof).  Hopefully someday a copy of the actual tape this was recorded on, pre-mastering, comes out.

For now, enjoy a rather tired and sloppy Nirvana set at what must have been nearly a year on the road.  It still has it's charms and it's a rather clear and well mixed soundboard outside of the bass being a bit high, so I thought I'd share in case anyone else was curious to hear this too.   - DH

ADRENALIN OD - July 9th, 1983 @ Love Hall, Philadelphia, PA [AUDIENCE]

Today's offering is a noisy audience recording of  ADRENALIN OD at the Love Hall in Philly, 1983.  It's probably one of the rougher recordings I have of them, but still prefer it to some of the soundboards I have of them.  This looks like it came from Shayne and the Sacramento Music Archive / 3 Cameras And A Microphone, so hopefully he'll post an upgrade someday.  Though I have a feeling it may not be a huge improvement.  I'm no expert on the band at all, so I can't speak to anything about their set, but perhaps someone will come through and grace us with a setlist.  Hopefully this recording finds it's way to anyone that enjoys the band!   - DH

Well, here's a short one.  A single song from CONCRETE SOX from 1986.  I have no info on where this show happened.  Perhaps I'll come across the rest of the set someday, because this sounds pretty killer for a soundboard from 1986.   - DH

RKL - January 8th, 1985 @ KCSB, Santa Barbara, CA [FM AUDIO]

Here we are with a badass set from RKL live on the air in KCSB's studio in Santa Barbara.  From 1985.  It starts out rough sounding but it sorts itself out real quick.  I'm no RKL expert, so I won't write much about this. As a guitar player though, I love listening to them, I don't do it enough and should change that.  And you should listen to this, hopefully you dig it.   - DH

INSURGENCY - April 4th, 1986 @ Ruthie's Inn, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Another one from little known bay area-ish band (I think) INSURGENCY.  I've already posted their 6 song demo, which you can find by clicking on Insurgency in the tags of this post.  That demo is pretty killer. So here's something to accompany that, a soundboard tape from Ruthie's Inn in Berkeley, CA.  I don't know who they were playing with, maybe there's a flyer somewhere?  If someone has one or I come across it online, I'll edit it in here.  For now, enjoy this rare recording of a very overlooked band, and check out their demo too!   - DH

ASUNDER - October 31st, 2006 @ Elbo Room, San Francisco, CA [AUDIENCE]

Halloween night at the Elbo Room in 2006.  I don't remember who else played this show, but I won't forget ASUNDER playing by candlelight.  The recording helps the memory but I also have the vivid image of Dino dressed as a nun with a bloody baby attached via an umbilical cord coming out from under the nun's robes.  Of course, they also crushed all joy live as they usually tended to do.  Saw them live a lot, but only recorded them a couple times, likely because of how dark it was onstage when they played, made video impractical.  I did record audio at least 2 or 3 times though, so that's better than nothing.  Here they do a song from both of the LPs.  Play it loud, get depressed.  - DH

Classic NYHC via MADBALL live on WFMU in 1992.  Unfortunately it's a mono recording, does anyone have a stereo version?  Other than the mono, it's not bad sounding at all.  And it's short and sweet, plus they play a Negative Approach cover too.  If anyone can help with the setlist though, that would be killer.  Enjoy!   - DH

Today's post is a 7 SECONDS demo from 1986 of material that would wind up on "New Wind".  It's a hissy unknown gen tape so I'd probably just keep listening to New Wind personally, but if you like the band enough to want to hear every single thing, then here ya go.  But damn, I can't place the 3rd song.  I meant to listen to New Wind again to refresh the memory but free time keeps escaping me.  If anyone knows, help a guy out here.  - DH

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH - June 22nd, 1988 Rehearsal

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH!  I'm not very familiar with these guys but they were active around the mid to late 80's, I've seen their name on several flyers and there are a handful of shows that were recorded that are now in the collection and will eventually be transferred and uploaded.  So if you are following my posts and are along for the ride, we will all get a bit more familiar with these folks.  So yeah, here's a rehearsal recording of them.  Seems like there's a few false starts to some of the songs so perhaps not the best way to start off but it can only go up from here, right?  Besides, it was next.  Respect the queue.  Anyhoo, check 'em out!  - DH

WIND OF CHANGE - 1987 Demo [DEMO]

I like this demo, but probably not in the way or for the reasons it was intended.  This demo, is from WIND OF CHANGE, apparently it's Youth Under Control after a name change.  I remember liking Youth Under Control, I think I've posted a demo from them or if I haven't yet, it's in the pipeline.  This demo is bad.  I said I liked it, but I like it because it's so bad. Youth Under Control was faster straightedge hardcore, but this is slower and more melodic. I have nothing against the slower and melodic hardcore bands from this time period. However, these guys were much, much better at faster angry hardcore then what they were trying to do here. The attempt cracks me up though, so I throw it on every so often when I want to enjoy something so bad that it becomes entertaining again.  But damn, what are the lyrics about?  Were they still straightedge?  Because these titles could be kinda Jesus-y, that's a beef I sometimes have with straightedge bands.  I just can't tell.

So as much as I bag on this, it's very possible that I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about and that my opinion is wrong and hot garbage.  So because of that possibility, and because it's next in the queue, I digitized and uploaded.  It's fully possible that there are folks that might dig to hear this, I have no idea.  If those people exist, I hope they find this and enjoy it.  - DH

KOFFIN KATS - April 11th, 2010 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD}

Today I bring you a soundboard recording from KOFFIN KATS at 924 Gilman St in 2010.  This is a bit out of my wheelhouse here, I'm not generally a fan of this style.  But sometimes I would head over to Gilman St and just see whatever show was happening.  This was one of those nights.  I remember it was pouring rain so damn hard, and I rode a bike for several miles through it to the club, with a backpack full of heavy camera gear.  And though I wasn't familiar with the bands, and the rain probably hurt the turnout, it was still a fun time.  Koffin Kats put on a hell of a show. I made this board recording but the balance was all out of whack.  Guitars were way too low, bass and vocals too high.  Now I have a way to adjust these things to a degree.  So in Izotope I turned the bass, vocals, and drums down a bit, and turned the guitars way up, and it's finally at a decent spot, by my standards at least.  This one took a few attempts to get right, but I'm happy with it here.  Anyhoo, if you like these guys, there ya go.  And if anyone can help me with the song titles thjat would be cool.  And I apologize if I split the tracks in the wrong spot, I'm not familiar with their material so I was doing the best I could.  Cheers!  - DH

BGK - December 1984 @ Pinki Hall, Belgrade, Yugoslavia [SOUNDBOARD]

Well, I like BGK but this one is a bit rough, not sure why I'm uploading this.  I didn't touch the mix at all, it's just too over the place,.  That's always kind of the downside of soundboard recordings, so many have mixes that go all over the place through the set.  I probably could have at least tried lowering the vocals, oh well.  I'm mainly uploading this for completeness, but maybe a do-over is due at some point.  Anyway, maybe someone will like this so here it is.  - DH

SPAZZ - August 5th, 1994 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Here's a quick SPAZZ set from 924 Gilman St in 1994, opening for Los Crudos.  It's a soundboard recording, so it takes a few minutes for the levels to even out on the tape and then it starts to sound ok, but of course by that point that's a big chunk of their set.  I tried to sit and get the song titles down but it has been way too long since I knew Spazz songs well enough to remember their titles, or at least what record the songs were on.  So if you know, help me out, I'll edit it into the post.  Otherwise, enjoy! - DH

EDIT: Thanks to Youtube member EVERSHIT for the song titles, they even put timestamps for each song in the video's comment section.  A hero!

Today's post is the 1983 "Jayne Doe" demo from Raleigh NC's NO LABELS.  I believe they shared members with Corrosion Of Conformity, and certainly share a similar vibe.  I think the actual demo was just the first seven songs, but this tape had more which I've included.  This includes the song HarDCore which was taking a shot at the DC scene at the time, and a Beatles cover!  Enjoy! - DH

RASKUL - April 30th, 1988 @ Central Park, Davis, CA [AUDIENCE AUDIO]

Here's a band I don't know anything about really.  This is RASKUL live in Davis, CA.  I don't think they released anything besides a demo, but it seems like they were fairly active in the late 80's. I see their name on old flyers and Dodge had a few shows and rehearsals on tape. Feel free to chime in with anything you know about the band, or with flyers or photos and such.  Cheers - DH

NO USE FOR A NAME - February 4th, 1989 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [AUDIENCE]

This an audience recording of NO USE FOR A NAME at 924 Gilman St opening up for The Melvins.  The Melvins set has been making the rounds for years, I think it was even bootlegged on vinyl, but I'm pretty sure the NUFAN set hasn't been circulating until this point.  So here it is, early as heck NUFAN.  I'm not very familiar with this band, so pardon the lack of info and song titles and such.  I believe this was with Chris Dodge on vocals, and I think this was recorded by him.  Nothing was done to the tape outside of some volume adjustment.  If anyone knows the song titles, has the flyer, or any photos please post in the comments and I'll edit them into this post.

LACERATION - 1991 Demo [DEMO]

Here's a band I wasn't familiar with until coming across this tape to transfer, and I really like it.  This is LACERATION from Seattle, WA with their only release.  It's too bad they didn't continue as I dig this a lot.  Word on the street is that this band shared a drummer with the mighty Aspirin Feast.  I have zero info about anything else in regards to this band, so if you have any stories or anything, feel free to comment.  - DH

CAPITALIST CASUALTIES - January 2nd, 1993 @ 924 Gilman St, Berkeley, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

RIP Spider Mike and Shawn. CAPITALIST CASUALTIES is a legendary band in my view, and I can't believe half the band has passed on.  Amazing people with amazing tunes, they will be missed.  Thankfully they have a ton of material to blast in their honor, and I also have a lot of live recordings I'll be sharing as well.  This one is a special one, as it's the soundboard recording from the very first Fiesta Grande at 924 Gilman St in 1993.  A truly legendary show that I wish I was able to see myself, I'll have to be content with being able to jam this recording.  Thanks to Dodge for the tape.  This is his copy so it's either the master or it comes right from it.  Nothing was done in editing outside of some volume adjustment.  It's a soundboard, so there is some level adjustment happening in the beginning, but it gets sorted out and sounds pretty killer once it does.  RIPV.  - DH

BASIC RADIO - 1987 Demo [DEMO]

Before there was Op Ivy, Tim and Matt were in this band, BASIC RADIO.  It's not very far off from what they would do in Op Ivy, though perhaps a bit more rock at times with their 2nd guitar player's ripping solos.  While I prefer Op Ivy, this is not a bad tape at all.  "There Is A Place" and "Six Pack In Fairyland" are great tunes.  Thanks to my friend Israel for providing me with this tape to digitize, this is from an actual demo the band was giving out, so pretty much the best source possible outside of the actual master tapes.   This was recorded in February of 1987, so they must have broken up right after this.  Three months later Operation Ivy would be playing their first show.    - DH

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES - April 2nd, 1983 @ The Roller Works, Chatsworth, CA [SOUNDBOARD]

Here is a rough sounding and yet totally badass soundboard recording of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES before they had any records out, at this point they had been playing shows for less than a year.  Pretty rad to hear them announce "Subliminal" as a new song.  This is missing the first song of the set, not sure if it was recorded or if my tape was just missing it, so this is slightly incomplete.  And it's rough in the beginning but the mix settles down and while it doesn't sound amazing, it certainly gets a pass for what it is.  Oh, and this was opening for Minor Threat.  If you were at this show, I envy you. - DH

FOUR HOUR FOGGER - 1998 Demo [DEMO]

Today's post is FOUR HOUR FOGGER from Atlanta, GA, with a four song demo they released in 1998.  I'm not sure how I would classify this, but it rocks and I really dig it.  I would have loved to see them back then, as it's good tunes to get stoned to,  After this band would break up, guitarist Brent Hinds and bassist Troy Sanders would meet some expats from my hometown Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher and they would form the band Mastodon.  So these guys released a few tapes and CDs, sadly this is the only one I have, and it's just a dub my buddy made (he had the actual tape they released).  Hopefully I come across the rest, but I'm glad to at least be able to listen to this. - DH

ECONOCHRIST - July 10th, 1990 @ Slipped Disc, Dallas, TX [AUDIENCE]

Not much to say about this tape.  It's a noisy recording of an ECONOCHRIST set at Slipped Disc in Dallas, TX, 1990.  I don't know who recorded it or on what, but it's Econochrist, so I'm down with it regardless.  Thanks to whoever had the foresight to capture this set.  If anyone can help out with the setlist I'd appreciate it.  - DH

MILK AND COOKIES " Got Your Nose" 1990 Demo + Live [DEMO]

Old school DIY lo-fi grindcore, just the way I like it.  I came across this tape and immediately was drawn to the funny titles and cover, and it didn't disappoint.  I had no idea who they were though, but being a Florida band, I figured Bob Suren might have the details.  And of course he did.  Turns out the vocalist in this band would later be the drummer in Failure Face and Murder-Suicide Pact, both of which Bob did vocals in.  FF is one of my favorite bands ever by the way, just like to make sure to throw that in there whenever I can.  So anyhoo, these guys only put out this tape and a song on a comp Bob released.  I ain't got the comp, but I do have the tape, and here it is for anyone that wants it.  It even has 4 live bonus tracks, sweeet.   - DH
